Notes
- Engine driver at the McEvoy Mine, July 1895. Just after 3:45 on 20 July 1895, when the disaster of an inrush of waste and slum entombed the six miners who lost their lives, Fred Curtis took the governor beltoff, put up the pressure and left the engine to race, to pump the water out quicker. The engine shook the ground, but he stopped by it forthree days and nights during the rescue operation. When Fred returned home he broke down. Later he received a letter of thanks from the management for his efforts to speed up the rescue.
