All of these children belong to James and Catherine, Janet Cowan is the second wife
1851 census shows he, Janet and children Catherine and James as visitors of the Bruce family at 21/52 Milton St (Cowcaddens ?).
Emigrated to Australia with Janet, Catherine and John, aboard the Conway, leaving Birkenhead in Jan 1854, then Greenock 18 March and eventually arrived in Geelong 17 Jun 1854.
Received crested mail (refer Edme) from Scotland supposedly inviting him to return to accept the title of Earl of Seafield (when he and Janet had 7 children). This would be about late 1862 to mid 1863.
Publican's Licence granted to James Grant for The Clyde Hotel 14 Dec 1861 (PRO 719 vol 1 p.117) reissued 21 Jun 1862 and again 11 Jun 1863.
Colonial Wine Licence issued to James Grant 19 Dec 1871?? at Sturt & Talbot Sts, NW corner, (PRO 719 vol 2 p.64).
1873 rate records show living in Sturt St Ballarat At the time of Elizabeth's death (June, 1873) resided at Sturt St, Ballarat.
