Notes
- Shown as aged 3 on brother James' birth cert when registered 14 Sep 1861.
Came to Victoria, Australia when 2 years old, leaving Wellington New Zealand on the Boomerang, 26 Aug 1959 for Melbourne. Shipping record shows parents names as George (32), Sarah (25), children as Eliza (3) and John (1) VPRS 7786 1859 018. The three eldest children were presumably dead.
Went to Sydney later than 1870.
Listed as Furniture Dealer of Regent Street on marriage certificate
As a young man was honorary secretary of the West Sydney Protection League. He was also honorary secretary of the Early Closing Movement, when the Saturday afternoon holiday was proclaimed. Later he was a member of the Trades and Labour Council. It was while he was a member of the Woolhara Council in 1894 that he was selected as protectionist candidate to oppose Sir George (then Mr) Reid, the freetrade candidate, for the King electorate; but he was unsuccessful. He was a foundation member of the firm of Davidson & Co. and occupied the position of director until his death.
1916: was living at Dungannon, Arncliffe at time of his silver wedding
Information given on his death certificate by niece Grace Waldron seems to be inaccurate - she has mixed sides of the families and does nothave him living in Victoria at all.
