GeneFrog Family History Finding records
It's time to grab your magnifying class and do some detective work, finding records and photos. Don't be afraid to get
yourself lost... that's probably the first thing you'll do when you start searching for family history (as well as the 3rd,
5th and 28th)! Before you begin, to help you find this site again, you might like to add this

The tabs above split your searches into basic groups. They are by no means exhaustive (although they may be exhausting); they are simply
sites which we have used and which may be of use to you. Obviously there will be a fair bit of overlap, because many of our ancestors seem
to have been remarkably adventurous. In an era when travel was far more difficult than it is today, some of our ancestors seem to have
covered far more of the world than many of us. Take the family below:
As far as we can tell, William Knuckey arrived in Australia from England, with his Aunt, Uncle and cousins in 1849. He
later returned to England where he married Susan Dunstan. They both set sail for Australia, arriving in Adelaide in 1853. They
remained there until approximately 1856, moving to the Ballarat district in Victoria for a short while, then to El Dorado in North East
Victoria.
However we found this old photo with the notation on the back: "New England 1860". We can assure those of you unfamiliar with
all of these places that they travelled a VERY long way.
Obviously keeping track of their movements some 150 years later was not easy, and they may well have been to other places we haven't yet
discovered (and may never discover). While current family members are always the first source of information, the next major souce has
become the internet. Increasingly more births, deaths and marriages are recorded on searchable databases, as well as census records,
shipping details and rate records. And as important as all of these is the contact available with people all over the world who may already
have the information you're searching for. So get on the net and start finding records.
